The Queen Elizabeth oak, Cowdray Park

This remarkable, and completely hollow, sessile oak (Quercus petraea) is located in Cowdray Park, West Sussex (map).

Queen Elizabeth I sat under this tree in 1591, the tree was unlikely to be hollow then but still nearly 500 years old.
